Hemlock: Voices from the South

Hemlock: Voices from the South is a letterpress-printed photographic artist book with photographs from Alabama, Georgia, and Shenandoah National Park, Virginia. The book contains an introduction to hemlocks and the woolly adelgid, and quotes from interviews with people who have worked with hemlocks and hemlocks forests in those states.

Edition of 15. Letterpress, inkjet. Summer 2024.

This small companion to the boxed artists’ book Hemlock contains a short introduction about the eastern hemlock tree and the hemlock woolly adelgid and quotes from interviews with six activists in Alabama, Georgia, and Virginia who have been working to save hemlocks and hemlock forests. The book is letterpress-printed with hand-set Garamond type and is covered in 100% hemlock paper. Various handmade, hand-dyed, and printed offcuts from Hemlock appear throughout the book and are slightly different in each copy.

Variable edition of 25. Letterpress with hand-set type and images from natural dye, photopolymer plate, and/or linocut. Spring 2025.

Materials: French paper, handmade 100% hemlock, abaca/flax, flax, and/or abaca/kozo paper, hemlock and indigo dye, board, thread.
